THIRD GENERATION

26. George CLENDON (photo) was born on 24 Mar 1827 in Ramsgate, Kent, England. He died on 5 Jan 1909 in Glens Falls, New York State, USA. He was a Major US Army. He started life in England, emigrated with his parents to the USA, (Glens Falls), he was a Major in the Union Army during the Civil War and was wounded in the Second Battle of Manassas (aka Bull Run). He travelled to California and Nevada during the second Gold Rush, and settled in Virginia. The family story was that George Clendon earned $10,000 as an assayer, and then bought the farm in Virginia, which he sentimentally named Thanet Farm.

He was married to Mary HUNT on 24 May 1848 in New York City. Mary HUNT was born on 7 Apr 1822 in Ramsgate, Kent, England. She died on 10 Jan 1908 in Glens Falls, New York State, USA. Widow of Gordon HUNT. George CLENDON and Mary HUNT had the following children:
